For many of us, we have never experienced a chemotherapy administration and have no real idea of how the drugs are given and what the visit involves. Many chemo drugs are given by IV infusion. A small plastic needle, called a catheter, is inserted generally into a front leg vein and the drugs are "dripped" along with fluids into the patient over a period of time. Administration lengths vary depending on the medication. Each patient is a little different and many times we administer a small sedative to allow the pet to rest during their administration. Families and friends...and favorite toys... are always welcome for support.
